Easy mode is over - No more free money.
Besides working 9-5 you should sink in at least 2-3h a day just to keep your purchasing power. Sounds fun?
The average 9-5 worker does not have the willpower or imagination to invest, save or think ten steps ahead. What to do? Choose debt slavery and pour it into real estate, live, laugh, and love. Let the government take care of my pension. Will you be fine?
There is nothing wrong with this. The average person should not be troubled by even thinking why my purchasing power is dropping. How to save money? Where to invest? Should I save in this bank’s funds? or what to do? It is hard enough to get an education to perform well in 9-5 and even have some surplus. This model worked in the past but will it work in the future?
The world is getting messier and messier.
Geopolitical issues (Russia vs Ukraine, China?)
Pandemics? Plandemics?
Governments interfering more, subsidies? (They pick the winners, Hydrogen?) Taxes? (for eg windfall taxes in EU) Regulatory actions?
Central banks Stimulate? / Tightening? Figure out what they want, more control?
Inflation (western developed economies did not have this problem for decades)
End of free money (rising interest rates, make that money work)
There are no shortcuts to retirement no matter what asset class, be it Bitcoin, stocks, ETFs or real estate. It is extremely hard and a game of patience. Hopefully, the start of the 2020’s decade gave us a good lesson. Betting just the Wayne Gretzky (Real estate) and Jari Kurri (Top stocks) and top tier goalie (government bonds) won’t be the instant win like in the last 40 years. We need Enforcers or jokers (Esa Tikkanen) to save our portfolio in this decade of maximum danger & dirtiness.
Real estate
Real estate used to be a sovereign individual’s number one go-to asset. Take debt, work 9-5, make payments, hurray wealth and energy stored, get debt free in 5-10years and pass your asset to future generations. With little or no tax.
The reality of prices and what individuals can actually afford have a huge cap at the moment. This Toronto picture highlights the problem:
The same is happening around the world. If I used to afford a 500k home at rates of -0.5% and inflation at 1% when rates are at 3,5% (still rising?) and inflation at 10%? Maybe max 300k. To keep it safe maybe 200k.
Who knows what will happen? Uncertainty is definitely on the rise. Government at least here in Finland keeps interfering. Are property taxes on the rise? Interest rates are no longer tax deductible. Are wealth transfer taxes on the rise?
Some locations already have less expensive rent than the interest rate fees, which you pay on the debt if you decide to buy that house now. Hope that the prices will just rise forever?
If the tax deductibles are off the table for regular Joe and taxing for properties is on the rise so what’s the point? Let just taxes eat your wealth away? Miss your utility payments due to the energy crisis, say goodbye to that “asset.”
Stocks & Bonds
The classic 60/40 portfolio will not work this decade compared to the last decade 2010 - 2020. These also have quite high fees (1.4% here). It was the shittiest year for 60/40, up only from here? Hope so.
Picking the winners will be a lot harder task in the future. Maybe the cycles will be faster from now on? Or is the fate of developed countries Japanification? Will geopolitical tensions persist? Just keep piling on SPY 0.00%↑ and QQQ 0.00%↑ ?
This will be a harder decade but I personally love it, for me playing and figuring out what will happen to markets is just a wonderful puzzle game. There will be plenty of opportunities. The big push for green energy? Surely some winners there? Is nuclear energy coming back finally and will common sense win? These are again plays that rely massively on government policies. You again have to keep your dancing shoes on and work hard to manage your assets.
Bitcoin
It currently sits at 300bn, it’s peanuts, but it still creates so many emotions everywhere, be it love or hate. Why do bankers, central bankers, government officials, and system worshippers even bat an eye on this “asset”? Just the brand value alone is +1T. Be it innovation or one big mass psychosis.
I think the biggest hurdle is how some super shadowy coders or online drug buyers happened to get rich by “pure luck” by getting involved early on some magical internet money. Yes, it can feel unfair when you worked your ass off to get the best diplomas to compete in the 9-5 ladder, took the mortgage, and made your plan to stack some stocks. Have that six-month buffer of cash. Can you get rugged by government policies? Will you have a pension? Any assets in 20 years? When are you planning to retire? Age of 95y in this kind of world? The likelihood is for sure rising that our governments aren’t maximizing love and freedom in the future.
I really hope I would need just to work 9-5 keep serving the debt and stick the surplus to 60/40 funds. I want to watch those star players shine not some enforcers causing mayhem.
Bitcoin is:
First private (no government oversight)
Global
Rules-based
Monetary system
Bitcoin is still a massive risk asset. It has not been tested by a severe recession. Only a 14-year-old asset. I don’t know where it goes, can it go to 5-10k? Absolutely, but in the long term, in 5-10 years Bitcoin will be worth a lot more. There are no shortcuts, it will take many decades, first to 10T asset, then 30T and 50T, and it just continues to do its thing. That’s bitcoins function, just be there, and keep growing, validating, hashing, and developing.
Where can you find such an interesting and unique asset with a measly 300bn market cap? Its currency? Its money? Its high tech stock? Its commodity? Its that 9-5 workers brain-dead savings solution: digital real estate?
What other asset has the potential to disrupt and eat more ■ like Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is not world-changing “money” I don’t think it would become the world reserve currency, it just continues to do its thing. That’s bitcoins function, just be there, keep growing, validating, hashing, and developing. The world currently needs Bitcoin. The “game” is currently riddled with moral hazard, corruption, bad actors, and state interference everywhere. I hope that Bitcoin grows more and more to counter moral hazards. Bitcoin does not solve world problems alone. Bitcoin is the ugly duckling, gritty hard-working never giving up mother fucker who keeps trumping on and will do everything the coach needs. Bitcoin is our freedom fighter and enforcer. It brings the best out of everybody around it. How to keep the game clean and win? Have a bit of Bitcoin on your team, and let your star players, Wayne Gretzky’s, etc., shine. Have that cold war scare, if the game gets dirty I trust my freedom enforcer, fuck this shit I bet Bitcoin, I am not betting my Wayne Gretzky in those situations. Our world needs more star players, in governments, corporations, and every level of our society to make our world a better place for future generations. We are heading to a future where governments have more control, picking the stock market winners, taking away our property rights, and controlling and taxing us more. Wouldn’t it be better for all the assets if governments at least had some kind of threat that keeps them honest?
We, commoners, now have the first global freedom enforcer: Bitcoin. Keep our governments & corporations honest maximizing freedom and love.

What other bets don't have to be just #Bitcoin. Turkey changed from a bandit to a hero when the war started. Best performing markets in late 2022? Other extremely hated and contrarian plays? Emerging markets? China? Are any hated industries?/companies?
